The Driver and Vehicle Services Agency (DVSA) has begun two new data initiatives with plans for an integration platform and the creation of data models in AWS.
It has published procurement notices for support in both, indicating that it wishes to begin work in early September, initially to run for three to four months.
The integration platform is part of a plan to create a central data ecosystem to replace the current decentralised management of data and relevant assets. It will involve integrating internal systems, using a master data management approach on Informatica and AWS platforms, with a specific focus on data quality.
The notice identifies the prime users as CRM developers needing to access and share data with other applications, and data scientists. A target architecture has already been defined.
Business processes
The work on relational data models will cover 20 business processes using the Amazon Aurora relational database, and reflects the way that DVSA is changing the way it manages data. The project should equip it with the relevant development skills.
Prime users are expected to be reporting analysts producing reports for people across the agency, and members of the enforcement team producing risk scores. Work so far has included mapping business processes and starting to build conceptual data models to support them.
DVSA is a year into a strategy that includes a significant investment in digital services, and a reduction in the complexity of its data architecture and technical code to support developers in adding new features to its services.
