The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has launched an online driver and vehicles account.

The service has been made available as a public beta on GOV.UK and applies to motorists whose licence was issued in England, Scotland or Wales, and who hold UK passports for the verification process.

DVLA said it enables them to easily access their driver and vehicle information in one place and has asked for feedback to support its further development.

It makes it possible for users to view information on their driving licences, including endorsements and penalty points, and vehicles registered to them including tax and MOT status. There are also functions for setting up vehicle tax reminders by email and SMS, choosing to stop the reminders by post, and changing contact preferences.

Signing up requires the provision of an email address, personal details, either a driving licence or national insurance number, and the UK passport to verify identity.

DVLA chief executive Julie Lennard said: “We are asking motorists to help us test the service. It’s free, and simple to sign up for an account. This new service is being developed and we will be adding more features but we want to give customers access as early as possible so they can try it out and let us have their feedback.”
