The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has added two new features to the online Driver and vehicles account service.

It said it will now be possible for motorists to use the service to renew the photo on their driving licence and apply for a first provisional licence.

These are two of the DVLA’s highest volume transactions and will join features such as the option to receive vehicle tax reminders by text or email.

Motorists will be able to track their application, see details of the new licence once issued, and choose whether to upload their own photo or allow DVLA to digitally access their passport photo through its secure link with HM Passport Office.

In addition, provisional drivers with an account can view their provisional licence an add a vehicle registered in their name.

Simple and streamlined

DVLA chief executive Julie Lennard said: “We want to make transacting with us as simple and as streamlined as possible, which is why we will continue to add more features and services to the account so that our customers can get what they need from DVLA quicker and easier than ever before.”

DVLA said that more than 890,000 people have signed up for an account since it was launched less than a year ago.
