Dundee City Council has said it plans to use a software platform from Swedish firm ClimateView to manage the progress of its climate action plan.
The move follows its declaration of a climate emergency in June of last year and the launch of the action plan in December.
ClimateView said the software should provide a coherent visualisation of the climate data held by the council, including current CO2 emissions per sector, proposed and approved policies and indicators of the progress made.
This is aimed at making it accessible to stakeholders and centralising the activities of members of the Dundee Partnership, a grouping of public, private and community organisations across the city.
Green foundation
Councillor John Alexander, the council’s leader, said: "Dundee's Climate Action Plan provides the foundation for a green recovery, however, there is still much work to be done.
“This transition can only be achieved with concerted city-wide effort and the ability to accurately measure and monitor emissions reductions from carbon-saving actions is vital to keep us on track. The community, private and public sectors have worked incredibly hard to co-design the plan and they will all play a central role in implementing this next step.
“For this reason, we are delighted to be making use of ClimateView’s software platform to ensure that we can collaborate effectively and accelerate our city’s progress."
Dundee is the first local authority in Scotland to use the software.
