Home Secretary Suella Braverman MP has announced plans for a new digital tool to be used by police forces in dealing with domestic abuse.
She included the plan in a statement to Parliament as one of a package of measures to combat domestic violence.
Braverman said the tool will help police quickly identify high risk perpetrators of abuse, including those without a conviction, so they can take appropriate action.
The Home Office aims to appoint a developer during the spring and identify police forces to trial and pilot it next year.
Identify perpetrators
“In the meantime, we are clear that we expect police forces to be proactively identifying and managing the most dangerous perpetrators in their area,” Braverman said, pointing out that there were 910,980 crimes related to domestic abuse in England and Wales in 2021-22.
Other measures in the package include the provision of £36 million over two years to fund more perpetrator interventions, £8.4 million over the same period to support victims and survivors, a pilot of Domestic Abuse Protection Notices and Orders, a pilot of an expansion of the ‘Ask for ANI’ (action needed immediately) scheme, and the addition of violence against women and girls to the Strategic Policing Requirement.
