GDS works with Foreign and Commonwealth Office opening procurement channel to overseas government

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has flagged up plans to make the Digital Marketplace – the channel for procuring technology for digital public services – available to other national governments.

It is working on the project – which was first revealed by Minister for Government Resilience and Efficiency Caroline Nokes last September– with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, saying it will provide opportunities for UK suppliers in overseas markets.

Named the Global Digital Marketplace, it will be focused largely on digital, data and technology (DDaT) suppliers, and open to large companies and SMEs.

In a blogpost on the move, Warren Smith (pictured), director of the Digital Marketplace, said it is partly aimed at helping other governments make their procurement more transparent.

GDS is planning to hold an event for government, not-for-profits and companies on 12 April to discuss the move. It said it wants to talk about how to work with DDaT suppliers, how to support smart city initiatives around the world, and working with other governments.
