Devon County Council has agreed on a two-year contract, valued at £8 million, with Specialist Computer Centres (SCC) for support in its software procurement and management.
It will use the company as a specialist licensing solution provider for supplies of software to the council itself, its schools and academies, and partners and joint venture organisations in which it is a key stakeholder.
The contract notice says the council is a heavy user of Microsoft software, being in the second year of an enterprise subscription agreement and an open value subscription agreement with the company, which between them cover user and infrastructure licensing.
It is looking to move to a Microsoft managed desktop environment over the next few years but does purchase third party software where necessary.
The notice also states that software-as-a-service will be a prerequisite in any new requirements.
