Devon and Cornwall Police has urged local people to use the recently launched Police.UK app to report non-urgent crimes and incidents and as a source of information.
The app was launched by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) in March as part of its Digital Public Contact Programme.
The Devon and Cornwall force has told the public it offers a quick and easy way of reporting non-urgent incidents, finding crime prevention advice and information on local neighbourhood policing teams and crime priorities, as well as any upcoming meetings in their communities.
Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Leaper said: “Being able to report something digitally, via the app, puts the victim or witness in control and avoids the need to talk, in person, to someone they have never spoken to before.
“Police.UK does not replace other ways of reporting incidents, though. It just provides an additional way to get in touch. If it is an emergency the public should always call 999 and the option to call 101 for routine issues still exists.”
The app runs on the Single Online Home (SOH) web platform used by 38 out of 43 police forces in the UK.
