
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has signed technology and transformation company Atos as provider of core infrastructure end user services.
They have agreed on a five-year contract, which began earlier this month, with a value of £150 million.
Atos said it will support Defra in transforming its service desk and end user services on a single, agile service to support 34,000 users.
It will involve the use of technologies including automation, machine learning, AI and analytics, and will be aimed at making the department’s digital workplace environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Priority for re-use
The company said it will begin by working with partners to repair, refurbish, remanufacture and re-issue hardware, ensuring minimal packaging and shipments, and donating disuses devices to charities and social enterprises.
It also indicated it will use it sustainable digital workplace suite of services and solutions., encompassing social value and accessibility criteria.
Its head of UK and Ireland, Michael Herron, said: “We are delighted to be working with DEFRA on their end user services enabling their team to concentrate on the important work they deliver.”
