Defence Digital has set up a new contract with incumbent supplier Micro Focus for its electronic records management system.

The agency of the Ministry of Defence has awarded the company the deal – valued at £8.35 million over three years – without competition saying only the one operator can provide the service.

The contract award notice says it will involve the implementation of a new records management system for the official domain, with a migration of records from existing systems, and that there is “no reasonable substitute” for the content management software provided by Micro Focus.

This is due to the need to meet MoD requirements of interoperability between official and secret domains, and for a planned cloud optimisation programme.

It adds that the enterprise software provider has the necessary technical know-how, and that any third party supplier would be likely to create disproportionate delays and costs.
