The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced the launch of an Instagram page to collect input from young people for public consultations.

Named Involved, it is managed by the British Youth Council, is supported by the DCMS and is aimed at people aged 13-25.

It was designed by a group of young people to offer a youth perspective on government decisions.

DCMS said questions could involve asking young people how they feel about social distancing measures and what extra help they need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minister for Civil Society, Baroness Barran said: “Young people often feel like it is hard to get their voices heard. Involved will give them an easy way to contribute their views on issues that matter to them, helping our decisions as ministers to reflect these better.

“This commitment to involve young people’s views in policy making is part of our ambitious, long term plan to support them to thrive as we rebuild and recover from the coronavirus outbreak.”

The British Youth Council will collect the data, storing it with IT provider 1st IT on secure UK based servers and sharing it with DCMS anonymously. It said the data will be deleted in April 2021.

Other organisations involved in the project are The Mix, Youth Focus North West, Youth Focus: North East and the Youth Work Unit in Yorkshire and Humber.
