The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has launched a new competition for proposals on novel approaches to predictive cyber security.
The programme team, which works within the Ministry of Defence, is making up to £1 million available in the first phase for five to 10 proof-of-concept research projects each lasting up to six months. It expects to provide more money for future phases.
It said the long term aim is to develop a deployable solution to predict and counter future cyber threats. It would be used primarily for defence.
Proposals that focus on theoretical models, lack implementation to real data, ingest social media feeds or other public data of a personal nature are outside the scope of the competition. However, proactive intelligence gathering via the use of honeypots is in scope, and proposals that make use of open source data formats are encouraged.
According to the competition document it aims to go beyond defence against known threats to anticipating those that could arise, getting ahead of threats and predicting future attacks.
The competition is open until midday on 5 November 2018.
