The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has issued an online guide to technologies that support health and social care.
Named Driving improvement through technology, it provides a series of case studies on use and testing of new techs, encouraging organisations to consider whether similar approaches could benefit their services. – although it does not endorse any particular product, supplier or service.
They cover areas such as automated triage, digital records, mhealth and telecare.
In a blog on the resource, Dr Malte Gerhold, the CQC’s director of strategy and intelligence, says: “As regulator, the quality of care and safety of people who receive it is paramount for us.
“But that does not mean that regulation has to be a barrier to innovation. Quite the opposite. We want to see the great potential of new technologies in improving the quality of care and safety become reality – and are determined to help make it possible.”
CQC cautioned, however, that using technology as described in the case may help improve the quality of care but is not guaranteed to do so.
