The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is planning to run a series of pilots using digital jury bundles as part of the criminal justice process.
It has earmarked four Crown Courts – two in London and two in the North-West – to conduct proof of concept trials and is looking to plan for a national roll out of the bundles.
CPS has published a market notice for private sector support in the initiative, saying it wants to provide jurors and other participants with a digitalised solution.
It began work on the plan last year, initially aiming for a trial in a single court. This has led to the proof of concept that it now aims to take further.
Digital jury bundles include evidence exhibits for a trial such as police interview transcripts, telephone records and photographs. The CPS wants the solution to include a capability for jurors to annotate their bundles.
