The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for England and Wales has selected US IT services and consulting company DXC to both “run and transform” its IT infrastructure.

As part of a multi-year contract worth up to £9m, the organisation is asking the firm to take over the running of its existing service management platform, ServiceNow, and so ensure uninterrupted IT service for its 7,000 employees.

Key to doing so will be more use of AI and process automation to speed up, to innovate and improve the overall IT experience for CPS employees.

DXC will do so using its Secure Hub service platform and will work with the Service to integrate a "digital by default" strategy, driving down calls to service desk colleagues and promoting interactions via other channels such as self-service.

"This is an important moment in our modernisation plan,” said Matthew Cain, interim CPS chief digital information officer.

“Enhanced digital capabilities and strong strategic partnerships will enable our people to thrive and ensure excellent casework quality,” he added.

CPS operates across England and Wales through 14 regional divisions and CPS Direct, its centralised 24-hours charging unit.

Handling over 400,000 cases annually, it works closely with local and national UK police forces, the Ministry of Justice, and other central government Departments.
