County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has launched a patient engagement portal (PEP) in partnership with NHS owned digital health company Health Call.

Named MyHealthCall PEP, it connects patients with healthcare organisations through the NHS App and is now live at the trust. It will initially enable selected patients to manage outpatient appointments digitally, and there is an intention to make it available to all relevant/appropriate patients.

The portal was implemented using the Health Call Platform Integration Engine, which integrates it with current and legacy systems, and enable organisations to quickly incorporate new features as they become available on the NHS App.

It uses cloud hosted Mirth technology – a cross-platform integration engine used in healthcare – and provides for customisable solutions without complex coding.

County Durham and Darlington’s chief information officer, Farouq Din, said, “The easy-to-use patient engagement portal makes it easier and quicker for our patients to arrange, check and stay informed about their health appointments. Ensuring our patients have the very best quality care and experience is our priority and we’re pleased they will be the first to benefit from this platform.”
