Derby chooses Yotta Horizons software to support highways Initiative
Derby City Council has selected Horizons visualised asset management software from Yotta to support a range of highways initiatives and new working practices. The purchase of Horizons software follows the council's decision to bring highway maintenance back in house after almost twenty years of using a series of outside firms, most recently constructions company Carillion. Derby announced its decision not to renew the £4 million per year term maintenance contract in February 2012 and the new in house service started in August 2013. This move is set to save the council £300,000 a year; which will be reinvested in the highway network. Underpinning this new service will be the Horizons asset management software from Yotta. The solution will host a range of highways data including asset video and road condition surveys. Horizons will be used to integrate, visualise and deploy across the organisation up to date essential service information, informing decision making and driving performance improvements, efficiency gains and cost savings. Horizons is a visualised Software-as-a-Service ("SaaS") asset management platform.

Redbridge College selects Advanced cloud-based accounting software
Redbridge College, a further education college in north-east London, has appointed software and IT services supplier Advanced Computer Software Group to host its financial accounting system in the cloud. The college plans to migrate its finance system, which includes workflow engine, eBIS and document management technology, to the cloud by May 2014. Redbridge College's finance team uses OpenAccounts for budget monitoring, online ordering, invoice approval and requests, expense payments, and general ledger. eBIS is used to facilitate the flow of information around the college and the document management technology (from V1) is used to store and circulate electronic documents, helping to save paper and increase efficiencies. Ashley Garner, assistant principal at Redbridge College, says: "Advanced's OpenAccounts finance system has already significantly improved our efficiency and financial decision making. However, migrating these business-critical applications to the cloud is a key aspect of our on-going strategy to safeguard data and ensure continuity in the event of disaster or power outage. The migration will also reduce time and expenses and enable the IT team to focus more on supporting and training students and staff."

Dog Digital to build responsive website for NHS Borders
NHS Borders has selected agency Dog Digital to redevelop its main website, which was first developed more than five years ago. The new website will be designed to be responsive to all devices. Dog Digital's appointment follows previous digital marketing and website development projects for other significant public sector bodies including Scottish Enterprise, VisitScotland and Scottish Development International. The responsive website that Dog developed for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service won Website of the Year at the Public Sector Communication Awards in November 2013.
