National Archives' First World War diaries online with MongoDB
The National Archives' First World War diaries have been made available to the public online using MongoDB open source 'NoSQL' document database software. The archive scales to many terabytes of data and will continue to grow as more is digitised and made available to the public. MongoDB's scalability enables the National Archives' Discovery Platform to scale to meet these demands and uses the rich querying capability of the database for search and filtering, the company said. Joe Morrissey of MongoDB said: "The National Archives is home to a wealth of British history and this data is now readily available, easily searchable and open to all. Increasingly open source database technologies are playing a critical role in information sharing, allowing future generations to understand and explore the sacrifices made during the First World War.

Advanced Mobile Communications to provide EE 4G mobile to Care UK
Advanced Mobile Communications has secured a five year contract with independent health and social care service provider Care UK to provide mobile airtime to 4,000 employees via EE's 4G network. Advanced will be managing every aspect of Care UK's mobile fleet, including assets and bills, working with EE to ensure Care UK is provided with the tariff best suited to their business needs. Care UK says it is anticipating significant cost savings over the five-year partnership with Advanced. The company works with health commissioners to deliver care and support for older people and those living with learning disabilities or mental health conditions, in addition to a range of healthcare services for NHS patients including primary, secondary and urgent care. PayPoint wins awards for public sector schemes
Two innovative payment schemes designed to enable the most financially disadvantaged in society to receive payments from central and local government have won awards for supplier PayPoint at the Card & Payments Awards in London. The firm won a 'Simple Payment' award for the solution that replaced paper-based Cashcheques (known as giro cheques) for the payment of government benefits, pensions and child maintenance to those who do not use a bank, building society or Post Office account. Payments are made either to a secure, bespoke prepaid card for encashment at over 10,000 PayPoint outlets or instantly via SMS or email (ePayments). Simple Payment is delivered on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) by PayPoint and Citi, and its success has allowed the Government to discontinue all cheque services, with an annual saving to the taxpayer estimated at £15 million. The second 'highly commended' award was for Quick Credit Voucher, a secure, web-based portal to enable local authorities to make emergency payments to vulnerable residents for redemption at any of PayPoint's 26,000 outlets nationwide. The system requires no development or cash office costs by local authorities and enables them to issue vouchers of up to £100 instantly by SMS, email or post.
