Birkbeck, University of London streamlines admin processes with Bizagi
Birkbeck, University of London has worked with business process management specialist Bizagi to streamline two complex administration procedures, including one process to help students better manage their course options, the company has said. The higher education institution's Student Status Amendment Program, now driven by Bizagi, enables more than 30,000 students to instigate changes to their program of study through a web portal. "My Birkbeck Profile" - based on Oracle Apex - drives the subsequent workflow through the checks and balances needed to ensure changes take place quickly and in line with university procedures. The project has closed 3,000 cases in just 10% of the time it took under the previous system, Bizagi says. The pilot led to subsequent processes - one to ensure the timeliness of applications for student loans - being rolled out across the university, and has encouraged non-technical staff to instigate their own small-scale process improvements, relieving the burden on the internal IT team. The project used Bizagi Modeler, which encourages early business/IT collaboration through its simple process modeling platform; and the Bizagi BPM Suite, to automate process models and execute them across the university.
