The College of Policing has announced an upgrade and new name for its mobile app for police officers to identify digital evidence and intelligence at the scene of incidents.
Developed with the Police Digital Service (PDS) and previously named CyberTools, the app has now become CyberDigiTools and is available for police force mobile devices on Android and iOS platforms.
Its functions enable police officers to identify opportunities and secure digital intelligence at a scene, and to support witnesses, safeguarding them and any evidence. It also provides information to make them aware of any digital threats and opportunities.
The college said the app will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure its content is nationally consistent, up to date and meets the needs of frontline policing.
Management arrangements
Deployment of the app is managed by the PDS through the Knowledge Hub’s web content management system, and distributed internally in organisations through their mobile device management systems.
The first version of the app was launched in 2020 and based on a tool developed by the Metropolitan Police.
A note from the College of Policing on CyberDigiTools indicates that it is now used by 32 police forces in England and Wales plus British Transport Police, Immigration Enforcement and the Isle of Man Constabulary.
