Cheshire Constabulary has agreed on a deal with NICE Systems UK for the implementation of a digital evidence management system (DEMS).

The system will be provided under a five-year, £1.5 million contract that began in September.

It says the deal is part of a project in which the police force, along with the police and crime commissioner for Cheshire, is aiming to deploy a DEMS to support investigations. The new system will provide capabilities not yet available to the force.

Among its functions will be the ability to take in, process and deliver playable digital media from multiple sources, and to work for multiple users.

It will also be integrated with third party policing systems such as records management, command and control and digital interview recording, and provide an interface for sharing evidence with the Crown Prosecution Service and others in the criminal justice system.

The force anticipates that this will reduce the risk of data breaches and provide efficiency savings.
