Cheshire East Council has implemented the Apptio Cost Transparency system in its IT shared service operation with Cheshire West and Chester Council.

It deployed the system in August with the aim of give it full visibility of its IT costs and providing data to support decision making.

The system provides a single dashboard through which the council can see all of its technology costs, categorise and align them with the services and value they deliver. This can support the allocation of contracts and decisions on whether to migrate services.

It also enables the IT department to identify addressable and non-addressable spending, and supports it in accounting for fully burdened costs and the depreciation and amortisation of the cost of services.

Gareth Pawlett, chief information officer at Cheshire East Council, said: "We have been working towards attaining fully burdened cost transparency of our IT services for quite some time. By implementing Apptio Cost Transparency, we were able to achieve this almost immediately.

The deal is the first with the UK public sector for Apptio.
