StatsWales is planning an upgraded version of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD).
Its chief statistician Glyn Jones said that the upgrade of the index, which includes interactive maps to provide statistics on different measures of deprivation in individual areas, is scheduled to go live on 27 November with a series of further changes in the pipeline
It will include new data on obesity among reception age children and outcomes among children at school up to age of seven. There will also be new estimates on poor quality housing.
Other plans include a new physical environment sub-domain to measure accessibility of green space, data on public transport travelling times and broadband connectivity.
The move follows a consultation on what data users wanted to find on the index.
“We’ll be looking more closely at the data with analysts from local authorities in early November,” Jones said.
“We’re still hopeful that most of these new developments will make it into the Index. This will help us provide an improved and up to date picture of deprivation in Wales.”
