The Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) has published a guide to the use of privacy enhancing technologies (PETs).

It has made a beta version of the interactive tool available to support the adoption of the technologies in data driven projects.

The core component is a question-and-answer based decision tree to help the user explore which technologies could be beneficial for a specific use. It poses a series of questions on the sensitivity of data, how it is stored and access and how it is intended to be used.

Along with this is background information on PETS and the opportunities they can provide, a repository of real use cases and a catalogue of additional resources.

The CDEI said that over the next few months it will gather feedback on the guide and run usability tests to maximise is usefulness. It aims to publish a final version later in the year.
