The Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) has launched a series of online courses for civil servants on the use of generative AI.

It said the courses, totaling more than 30, have been provided by leading technology companies and will be available on Government Campus via the Civil Service Learning platform.

They have been selected based on learning needs identified by CDDO research, and cover topics including an introduction to generative AI, the relevant risks and ethics, tools and applications, prompt engineering, strategy and governance, and a technical curriculum.

In addition, CDDO said a new page on AI is being set up on the Government Campus Prospectus Online, and it is working with training providers and tech firms to organise a series of workshops.

The move follows closely from CDDO’s publication of a framework for the use of generative AI in government, and recent reports of the Government Digital Service developing a new chatbot that uses the technology.
