The Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) has set out a plan for a minimum viable product (MVP) of a web domain checking toolset for public sector organisations.
It is aiming to further develop a prototype that has been in operation for 18 months to an MVP that collects data from commercially available services and augments it with its own prototype toolset.
Other requirements would be to bring the collected data into a secure repository of known domains and issues, make it possible to view and interrogate the data, and ensure it can be used and maintained by a small group of technical and non-technical staff.
CDDO – which sits inside the Cabinet Office and went into operation in April – has published a market notice looking for support in the work, which it says is a step towards securing government services.
The toolset should help public sector organisations check the domain name system and individual domains for any cyber security issues, using it alongside commercially available services from third parties.
CDDO is aiming to complete the work by December.
