The Crown Commercial Service (CCS) is replacing its energy trading and risk management system with a cloud based solution.

It has signed a deal, valued in the procurement notice at £750,000, with Utilidex, a specialist in digital systems for energy management, which will involve using its Utilidex Energy Hub.

This follows the company having been choosing as one of the suppliers on CCS’s Utilities Management Software, Metering and Ancillary Services framework last year.

CCS said the new system will enable its trading and risk teams to manage customer aggregated basket demands for UK power and gas supplies.

Its head of energy operations, Colin Formby, said: “We’re excited to be able to offer a more unique energy management system to our customers and are looking forward to working with Utilidex.”

The company said the new system will provide for increased accuracy and better management of the relevant data through feature such as tracking usage profiles and bespoke report building, and that this would help CCS identify efficiencies and savings.

It also pointed to an increased ability for buyers to self-manage energy estates.

CCS is responsible for an energy portfolio worth £1.6 billion per year, making it one of the largest energy buyers in the UK.
