Building cyber resiliency in public services

The threat of cyber attack is ever present and one of the greatest dangers facing the public sector, and organisations always need to keep one step ahead in strengthening defences and anticipating the next direction of attack.

St Helens Council is the latest public body to have suffered an attack and the Electoral Commission has confirmed that it has not passed a Cyber Essentials test – one of the basic requirements for good cyber security – over the past two years. Meanwhile, ransomware has been identified as one of the main cyber threats to the public sector, with the Government’s recently published National Risk Register highlighting its possible effects in the health and social care sector.

Against this backdrop, Resilience and Cyber4Good 2023 takes place online next week, with three morning sessions exploring how we can build cyber resiliency in the health and public sectors.

The 90 minute sessions take place on 20, 21 and 22 September, with shared learning, opportunities to ask questions and a range of authoritative speakers from the National Cyber Security Centre, NHS England, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the National Police Chiefs' Council and other public bodies.

Speakers include (pictured l-r above):

  • Geoff Connell, director of digital services at Norfolk County Council and chair of the national Cyber Technical Advisory Group (CTAG);
  • Martin Peters, detective superintendent at City of London Police and deputy lead for the National Cybercrime Programme for the National Police Chiefs' Council;
