Marks change from information resource to council-wide collaboration tool
Bracknell Forest Council’s digital services team has developed a new corporate intranet from a software-as-a-service platform as part of its digital transformation programme.
Named DORIS, the intranet went live last week, based on a platform from software company Invotra.
It has replaced a system that had been in place for more than 10 years and was essentially an information resource based on the structure of the organisation. The new intranet has a much greater capacity to support collaboration between council staff.
Colin Stenning, digital services manager at the council, said: “Its social and collaboration tools enable staff to work together and interact with each other on an individual and group basis. It utilises existing people data to drive a range of directory based features that will help staff to connect with each other and exchange information, skills and experience.”
Among DORIS’s features are a self-service facility; collaborative tools including blogs, message walls, polls and forums; an intelligent, tailored search function; and the ability to be accessed through any devices.
Stenning added that it should support the ways of working identified during Bracknell Forest’s support services project review and encourage staff engagement and collaboration.
“We have been busy testing and demonstrating the collaborative features to staff,” he said. “We are working with service teams to create: new content for all service areas; a staff directory, populated with key contact information; a news section; groups, notifications and feeds.”
