Boston Borough Council is to become the third authority in a partnership for back office shared services.
Earlier this week its councillors approved the proposal for it become a shareholder in Public Sector Partnership Services (PSPS) with East Lindsey and South Holland District Councils.
The partnership provides IT, HR, finance, customer contact and revenues and benefits services.
Boston predicted that the move will provide savings of £1.8 million over the next 10 years – highlighting IT systems as one of the areas – and support its transformation programme.
Subject to final due diligence, all of the council’s staff working in the services will transfer to the partnership on 1 April.
Beneficial outlook
Councillor Jonathan Noble, portfolio holder for financial and commercial at Boston, said: “I’m very much looking forward to working with Public Sector Partnership Services Ltd. We have seen from the work they have done with our neighbouring authorities just how beneficial the services they offer can be and they can help us achieve some substantial savings, which is vital at a time when councils across the country are finding themselves in precarious financial situations.
“The move will also better align us with our strategic alliance partners, East Lindsey District Council, meaning our future work together can happen in a far more seamless manner.
East Lindsey and South Holland renewed their contract with PSPS last year after achieving savings of £19 million over the initial 10 years.
