Birmingham City Council has said it is giving more than 1,000 digital devices to local community groups through the city’s Device Bank.
It has run a pilot scheme under which over 600 devices were distributed to 85 charities and is now decommissioning and refurbishing several thousand more.
The council said this week that so far 103 applications have been approved for the donation of 1,303 devices through community groups, and another 12 for 14 devices to individuals.
Cllr Jayne Francis, cabinet member for digital, culture, heritage and tourism, said: “Digital access is so important, it helps build confidence and can be a vital skill when it comes to applying for jobs.
“So it is fantastic to see this scheme bearing fruit and the positive feedback from the community. I’d encourage any organisations that think they may quality to apply.”
