Bexley Council has begun a phased roll out of the WasteWorks residential waste portal developed by local government technology provider SocietyWorks.

Under the first phase the organisation – a subsidiary of the mySociety civic technology charity – is delivering the initial functionality, including an API integration into the council’s in-cab system from Whitespace Work Software.

It said this enables residents to check their bin collection days and report missed collections within specified timeframes – essentially when the waste crew has completed its round.

Future phases will add further functions including bulky and green garden waste subscriptions, new container and assisted collection requests and clinical waste collections.

Rod Flicker, project lead at Bexley Council, said: “Bexley were looking for a new waste solution to improve our resident journey, providing an easy-to-use reporting tool and full integration with our waste management system. We evaluated several different options and selected WasteWorks as the best fit for Bexley.”

The council has already been using the FixMyStreet solution from SocietyWorks.
