The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Better Regulation Executive (BRE) are planning to develop an Open Regulation Platform as a source of information for businesses.
They have developed prototypes to test concepts and assumptions in an alpha phase, and are now preparing for beta, the purpose of which is to build an enriched, machine readable dataset of regulations with an open API.
The organisations have published a pre-tender market engagement notice, inviting potential suppliers to provide input.
“The UK government is committed to delivering an innovative and world leading regulatory system and the Better Regulation Executive aims to ensure that regulation is smarter, better targeted, and less costly to business,” the notice says.
“We want to make it simpler for businesses to know which regulations apply to them and how they can comply with any requirements. The Open Regulation Platform project aims to achieve this goal by processing the UK’s statute book and other regulatory texts into an enriched machine readable dataset of business regulations that is publicly accessible through an API.”
An earlier notice for the alpha project highlighted a desire to enable government, business and third parties to develop tools and applications to help business find information to comply with relevant regulations.
