The BBC has signed contracts with two companies to work with it as digital engineering augmentation partners.

Technology specialist Spyrosoft has picked up lot one, valued at £32.5 million, as an onshore partner to augment BBC teams around the UK in roles including software engineer, architects and dev ops specialists.

Consultancy Accenture has been awarded lot two, at £42.5 million, for nearshore support to provide full agile development teams to support work package based delivery. The roles include team leads, software and test engineers and dev ops.

Both deals are set to run for three years – beginning in January for the first lot and February for the second – with options for two one-year extensions.

The BBC has a strategy to become ‘digital first’, focused on audiences who choose to view its programming online, and is aiming to be within the top three for UK market share by 2027-28.

In May, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee published a report on the outlook saying the BBC needed to develop more detailed plans to back up its ambition.
