Adur and Worthing Councils have agreed on five-year deal with MLL Telecom to provide a managed full fibre network.
It will provide an infrastructure for the councils’ low power wide area network, public Wi-Fi, community safety CCTV and internet of things sensors.
The company has indicated that the deal will be worth over £750,000.
It has begun to provide gigabit internet connections along with firewalls and software defined wide area networks over a 54km CityFibre dark fibre network, and plans to connect 43 council owned sites by next spring in the first phase. Ultimately it scheduled to connect 83 sites by late 2022.
The company has also taken on responsibility for the ongoing optimisation of the network.
Maximising investment
Paul Brewer, director of digital, sustainability and resources in the two councils’ shared management team, said: “MLL’s technology expertise and comprehensive network management services will ensure the investment in our dark fibre infrastructure is fully maximised and future proofed.
“The network services MLL provides will deliver the flexibility and scalability we need to support our continuing digital transformation objectives, allowing us to respond to future digital requirements and opportunities – for the benefit of our citizens, employees and businesses.”
Among the initiatives planned for next year is the launch of an extensive public Wi-Fi network around public buildings.
MLL said the full fibre network could also serve the offices of neighbouring authorities.
