City council completes transition in six weeks under deal with Scottish hosting provider
Aberdeen City Council has moved its entire IT estate to a private cloud service under a deal with Scottish hosting company brightside.
It is part of a three year contract, valued at £1 million per year, for a managed data centre and disaster recovery service. The company said it has already moved the council's IT estate to the cloud, and added a disaster recovery plan, in just six weeks.
It added that its position as a Scottish based company – its headquarters are in Dundee, it has offices in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, and runs data centres in the north-east of the country connected by a high speed network – was a significant factor in winning the contract.
Aberdeen's finance, policy and resources convenor Councillor Willie Young said: “Aberdeen City Council has been impressed with the quality, flexibility and personalisation of service during transition to the new arrangements in extremely tight timescales, with minimum interruption to normal service. In brightsolid, we have found a partner with whom we can innovatively work as we digitally transform our council services while also reducing our operational costs.”

The company is a partner on the Microsoft Cloud OS Network, a programme for cloud service providers that enables them to build services on the Microsoft Cloud Platform.
