A survey of members the Association for Geographic Information has revealed that they believe their skills should be more widely used by the new Government.

Almost half (44.5%) of the parliamentary bills announced in the King’s Speech on July 17, 2024, could be impacted, influenced or supported by geospatial technology and processes.

Around 40 bills were announced by the new Government following the July general election. Where geospatial can have the most impact is the Digital Information and Smart Data Bill, and the Great British Energy Bill, according to 96% of the members responding to the survey. The members said geospatial provides the bills with enhanced analytics and assessment.

Asked if the government faces geospatial challenges, 83% of members said funding and 78% said access to skills.

Co-chair of the organisation, Peter ter Haar said the results of the survey will at least be used to inform their governing pillars.
